Bean Soup Times had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Connie, the proprietor of 5 Loaves Eatery.
BST: Greetings Connie, thank you for giving us the opportunity to share the vision behind 5 Loaves Eatery with our readers at Bean Soup Times
5LE: You are more than welcome, and thank you so much for the opportunity.
BST: So tell us a little more about how 5 Loaves Eatery got started.
5LE: We started on 71st and Yates, and I was able to open up the first place for about three years. I had just left my job, but because restaurant business is such a passion, my family came in and helped.
BST: What makes the menu and/or the atmosphere at 5 Loaves Eatery significantly different from other restaurants that specialize in traditional southern-styled food?
5LE: We are not a soul-food restaurant, except on Sundays…we throw down! As far as our community goes, we have a knowledge about food; we don’t narrow the people down to certain types of food. I love doing business with our community , because we have regulars that we know by name. They sell the love that we put in the food.
BST: The 5 Loaves Eatery website mentions catering services. How should those interested contact 5 Loaves Eatery concerning this service option?
5LE: We cater in various types of food. Reach out to us at www.5loaveschicago.com
BST: As a Black-owned business, what advice do you have for Black entrepreneurs and aspiring restaurant/business owners?
5LE: I would advise them to have their ducks in a row and to not do things by yourself because you need some type of support system. Someone once told me that you have to have the proper people in place, and start the way you see the end goal being reached. Stay passionate about your dream and see the finish line.
BST: Any favorites on the menu that you suggest first-time customers to try?
5LE: Our signature Chicken Salad Sandwich. It has that sweet, salty and crunchy combination that will make your taste buds wake up!
BST: Sounds delicious, we’ll definitely inform our readers. For now, it was a pleasure speaking with you and thank you again for chatting with Bean Soup Times.
5LE: You are welcome and thank you again.
