REMY BUMPPO LAUNCHES NEW THINKTANK PROJECT: PRESENTS WORLD
PREMIERE OF AN IMMIGRANT CLASS

The Performance:
Remy Bumppo Theatre Company presents the world premiere of An
Immigrant Class, March 22 through April 15th at the intimate
Victory Gardens Greenhouse Theater, 2257 North Lincoln Avenue. The play
is a stage adaptation by Remy Bumppo Associate Artistic Director Shawn
Douglass of Jeff Libman's An Immigrant Class: Oral Histories from
Chicago’s Newest Immigrants and depicts the real life stories of
immigrants from Cuba, West Africa, Russia, and Guatemala. Curtain times
are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:00 p.m., Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and
Sundays at 3:30 p.m. Extra performances: Wednesdays, April 4 and 11 at
7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 for students.
Tickets include nightly post-show discussions on the topic of
immigration featuring speakers from the community representing various
viewpoints on the topic of immigration. For tickets and more information

Desi Women and the Diaspora presented by Rasaka Theatre Company. A
program of short pieces that provide a revealing look at the female
South Asian immigration experience.
Sunday, April 1 at 1:30 p.m. – Hannah
Unpacks Her Trunk presented by the Children’s Museum of Immigration.
This program geared toward children age 6 to 8 tells the immigration
story as seen through the eyes of a Swedish immigrant in 1900. This
hour- long, interactive presentation introduces the basic concepts of
immigration—
deciding to leave home, making a journey, establishing a new home and
fitting in.
Saturday, April 7 at 4
p.m. - Staged Reading of Octavio Solis’
play Dreamlandia presented by Teatro Vista and directed by Cecilie D.
Keenan. Dreams and reality collide for a family living on the U.S. and
Mexico border as they deal with the clash of cultures and colors, NAFTA,
narcotics and illegal immigration. Crisp, comic and insightful, this
modern-day take on Calderon’s Life is a Dream is written in English with
a sprinkling of Spanish.

- Staged Reading of Yusef El Guindi’s play Our Enemies presented by Silk
Road Theatre Project and directed by Stuart Carden. Struggling writer
Gamal, fueled by the limited Arab voices represented in the US media,
engages in a prank campaign to shake up the system. But those in power
have a way of turning the tables. Our Enemies is a provocative look at
identity, media-representation, love and lust in the Arab-American
community. Award-winning playwright El Guindi will attend the reading
and post-show discussion.
