Reporters falsely assume Obama will only participate in half of black history month

WASHINGTON, DC—Reporters for several media outlets were completely taken by surprise when U.S. Senator Barack Obama casually mentioned that he could not wait to participate in a Black History Month event scheduled for Feb. 26.

“I think the majority of us assumed that he’d stop doing Black History Month events after February 28 since he’s only half black,” said one New York Times reporter covering the Democratic National Convention retreat Feb. 2.

“This stopped a bunch of questions I had. I wanted to ask him how he chooses which part of black history to participate in, why he just didn’t alternate days, and would he be interested in pushing for a Half Black History Month that would celebrate people like Halle Berry, Vin Disel, and Soledad O’brien?
