Thousands of whites seek citizenship in the Rhythm Nation

“We’ve learned the language of dance and demand equal membership and opportunity in the Rhythm Nation with the best,” say new advocacy group

CHICAGO—Tired of being third and fourth-class citizens in the Rhythm Nation, thousands of Caucasian youth boldly demand full and complete citizenship. Several groups have been quietly pushing the issue at underground hip hop clubs, but now their voice is getting stronger as they venture more into mainstream commercials and hip hop videos.

"We're every where and we just keep coming," said Jason Todd, spokesperson for White Hip Hop or Whip Hop. "I was taught how to dance from the cradle, just like Tiger Woods learned golf at an early age."

Whip Hop organizers hope to gain equal opportunity and membership in the Rhythm Nations. "It's not right when dance choreographers act so amazed when they find out I can dance. 'You dance so well,' they say."
