Our Mission Statement: Established in 2001, Bean Soup Times is a Black-owned news outlet featuring original, aggregated and satirical news articles on topics such as breaking news, health, business, politics, technology, sports, entertainment and social justice. So here’s a little more info about us.
We create opportunities for people to share their message and we spark conversation about things that matter to the Black community that are often ignored or mishandled in mainstream media. We provide a platform to help give voice to the voiceless. We believe that a community that knows better will do better and we provide a vehicle that helps to inform and empower. We educate our readers on how to shop smart and inform them of Black businesses and organizations.
Our signature product is our online media outlet that uses humor, politics and Black culture to inform and entertain. With our eBlasts, website, and social media platforms we help businesses get the word out to hundreds of thousands of Black consumers.
Bean Soup Times, started in March 2001 with an email filled with satire and entertainment news to 50 of Toure Muhammad’s friends and family members. By June 2001 the first website was launched and by January 2002, we debuted our first print edition. Our focus was offering a multi- media outlet. Our newspaper became a favorite source of humor, politics and culture. We have been a matrix of support, encouragement and advocacy for Chicago artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and organizations via news articles, eBlasts, flyer distribution, ad placement, and good old-fashioned word of mouth recommendations, and networking.Bean Soup Times has also produced a variety of events designed to inform, empower and control the telling of our own story.
