Bean Soup Times is a Chicago-based digital content company that creates opportunities for businesses, non profit organizations and artists to get the message out about their product, service or message. Here’s a little of our history.

We have landed exclusive interviews nationally recognized celebrities such as acclaimed actress Sanaa Lathan, Grammy Award winning artist J. Ivy; four time Apollo winner and Grammy winner Tarae Torae; Dr. Ian Smith, successful entrepreneurs such as George Fraser, Delxino Wilson de Briano, William Patterson; Michele Hoskins and Pepper Miller, Al B. Sure and Eric Benet.

Our signature product is our online media outlet that uses humor, politics and Black culture to inform and entertain. With our eBlasts, website, and social media platforms we help businesses get the word out to tens of thousands of Black consumers.

our history

Bean Soup Times, started in March 2001 with an email filled with satire and entertainment news to 50 of Toure Muhammad’s friends and family members. By June 2001 the first website was launched and by January 2002, we debuted our first print edition. Our focus was as a multi-media outlet.

Our newspaper became a favorite source of humor, politics and culture. We have been a matrix of support, encouragement and advocacy for Chicago artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and organizations via news articles, eBlasts, flyer distribution, ad placement, and good old-fashioned word of mouth recommendations, and networking.

In 2005 Bean Soup Times hosted a Live Variety Show headlined by Comedian Leon Rogers, then in 2006, the Bean Soup Comedy Awards Show brought together local Chicago comedians for a night of recognition. Bean Soup Times also hosted Comic Relief, a charitable show for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
