Mayor Riley H. Rogers teamed up with several local businesses and community activist Andrew Holmes to give away 1,000 free Thanksgiving turkeys to Village of Dolton residents Saturday November 19th.
Those residents who wanted turkeys began lining up at 7 a.m. Despite the frigid temperatures and high winds, they waited in orderly lines which moved quickly and efficiently throughout the morning and early afternoon.
“Clearly, there was a need,” said Mayor Rogers. “Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for us to give thanks for the blessings we’ve received and it also is great time to do something special for those are in need.” he added.
The free turkeys were available to anyone showing identification and proof of residency in the Village of Dolton. It was the largest turkey giveaway ever held in the village.
