Family Competition Turns into Family Business

HOMEWOOD—After winning a couple of serious family competitions, Antonio and Caryn Riley started getting requests from family and friends for bottles of sauce and rub. That’s how Riley’s Ribz was officially born.

Based on Homewood, IL Riley’s is a small business with a real passion for what they do. They “wanted others to taste the love and passion we have and use in our own food and dishes as well,” said Antonio. Their sauces and rubs are fast becoming a Chicago area favorite.

“We have always been fans of great tasting BBQ and food overall,” he explained. “My wife Caryn is from Cincinnati Ohio and her family have a long tradition of having an annual BBQ rib cook off aka the “rib off”.

A few years ago they entered for the first time. They lost but they learned and were more inspired to perfect their now signature flavor. “We started with getting in the lab, our kitchen, to create a sauce and rub. We then took our recipe back to Cincinnati and won that rib competition two years in a row,” he said.

Along with their sauces and rubs, Riley’s Ribz caters. “We do BBQ all year round. BBQ is not a season but a culture, way of life,” he said.
